WALKING TOGETHER AS PILGRIMS OF HOPE

In 2025, our then Holy Father, Pope Francis, had declared a special “Year of Hope.”  As part of this blessed Jubilee year, we invite you to embark on a  holy journey by making a pilgrimage to the Abbey of the Hills, a must-see Catholic site in South Dakota. Nestled amid picturesque lakes and rolling hills, the Abbey offers a serene escape from the busyness of the world and a unique opportunity to refresh your faith and encounter the Lord in nature and prayer.

Take a Day to Renew Your Spirit!

Discover the beauty of our historic grounds and walk through our sacred and historic “Holy Doors.”  Highlights of your pilgrimage may include:

Exploring and Hiking: The Abbey boasts over a 100,000 sq. ft. monastery and over 80 acres, complete with two lakes, orchards and miles of walking trails. Enjoy the serene landscapes with our provided map and meditation guide. Paddle boats and kayaks are available for those who wish to experience nature right on the water.

Prayerful Moments: Experience the stunning Mary, Mother of the Church mural, visit the small grotto    located in the orchards or contemplate the outdoor Stations of the Cross.

Leave the Meal Planning to the Abbey! Enjoy a savory picnic lunch prepared by the talented Abbey cook,  Eugene. Please note: a fee applies for the picnic lunch.

Don’t miss this opportunity to rediscover peace,  deepen your faith, and strengthen your connection with God. Conveniently located just off Hwy 12 and close to the Summit exit, the Abbey provides the    perfect escape just a short drive away. Whether you're looking for a refreshing day trip or considering an overnight stay, this pilgrimage is ideal for families, couples, friends, and individuals—there's truly something for everyone to enjoy!
