Day of Recollection

August 10, 2021

Topic: "Dakota Missionary Discipleship:  1875 to 1950
the New Evangelization"

The Abbey of the Hills Inn and Retreat Center will be offering a Day of Recollection.

Father Timothy Smith will lead a historical journey with the missionary disciples who brought the Gospel to the Dakota prairies. We will follow the holy lives of Servant of God Nicholas Black Elk & Father Eugene Buchel S.J. and retrace the footsteps of these missionary disciples. We will highlight the role of Blue Cloud Abbey in this history and how the love of Christ empowered our predecessors to journey everywhere in service to the Church. Each retreatant will receive a booklet of Lakota Prayers & Hymns in Lakota/English language and will gain a deeper appreciation of the work of God's Grace that inspired such fervent missionary activity in the 20th century.  By gaining a new perspective of the past, we will be empowered as missionary disciples in the new evangelization.

The day will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 3:00p.m. This day long retreat will consist of two conferences and Mass as well as built in time for adoration and an opportunity for the sacrament of Reconciliation. Lunch is provided.

The Abbey of the Hills is sustained in large part by the donations of the retreatants. For those who can give, your donation will help “pay the gift of peace” forward to help those with limited means.

Registration is required for meal planning purposes.
